Who this is for

A Sydney-wide reach, one Chartered Accountant.

Greater Sydney is a big market with no shortage of accountants. This page is for the people choosing a CA-led practice they can work with from anywhere in the city.

Most people searching for a “tax accountant Sydney” are not tied to a particular suburb. They want the right person on the file — a Chartered Accountant and registered Tax Agent who will scope the engagement, prepare the return and sign the lodgement — and they are comfortable doing most of it by phone, email and video. That is exactly how this practice works. The office sits in Cherrybrook in the north-west, but the income-tax work itself is digital end to end, so clients in the inner west, the eastern suburbs, the north shore, the south and the western suburbs are all served the same way.

If you would rather meet close to home and want suburb-level detail, two sibling pages go narrower: the Cherrybrook tax accountant page and the Hills District tax accountant page. The simplest way to choose: if you specifically want a Hills-local accountant for in-person meetings near you, read the Hills District page — it is the local-relationship version of this one. This Sydney page is about greater-Sydney reach, not a single postcode.

Why a CA-led practice

What you are actually choosing when you choose the accountant, not the postcode.

The registered-agent baseline

  • Registered, accountable lodgementReturns are prepared under registered Tax Agent obligations (TPB 25523469) and the CA ANZ professional standard. That sets the duty of care, the substantiation discipline, and the recourse you have if a position is ever wrong.
  • Distance is not a constraintAs your registered agent we lodge through Online Services for Agents and see your ATO account. Where you live in greater Sydney changes only where we meet if you prefer face to face — it does not change what we can do for you.
  • Continuity year on yearCarried-forward losses, depreciation schedules, franking balances and prior decisions live with the same preparer. Nothing has to be rediscovered each July, which is where missed deductions and errors tend to creep in.

Tax and finance, joined up

Where a lending decision sits beside the tax.

Plenty of Sydney clients come for tax and discover they also have a finance question running in parallel — a refinance, a first purchase, an investment property, or a self-employed borrower whose income needs explaining to a lender. The two are closely linked. The way income is declared, the add-backs in a self-employed return, and how a company or trust is treated are the same facts a lender assesses for serviceability. When one practice prepares the returns and can also act on the broking side, that information is consistent rather than reconstructed twice.

That said, the two engagements are kept separate, and tax preparation never depends on taking a loan. If a finance decision is in play, the finance side of the practice can take it from there. Any approval depends on the lender’s assessment, their lending criteria and your circumstances — nothing on this page is a credit offer or a promise of approval.

What to watch

The things that trip up Sydney taxpayers.

Common traps

  • Trusting June prefillATO prefill is incomplete early in the season. Dividends, distributions and managed-fund data often land late, so a return lodged on prefill alone in July can be wrong. We reconcile against your own records first.
  • Repair versus improvementOne is deductible now, the other is capitalised and depreciated. Investors across Sydney get this line wrong often enough that it is worth a deliberate look every year, not a guess at lodgement.
  • A structure left unreviewedA company or trust set up years ago may no longer fit. Structure is general territory that should be revisited with advice for your situation — not assumed to still suit because it once did.

How an engagement runs

From first call to lodged return — wherever you are in Sydney.

Scoping call

A short conversation — by phone, video or in person at Cherrybrook — to map the shape of your tax so the engagement and the fee are built around your real position, not a sticker price.

Engagement & handover

You sign a written engagement and, if switching, an authority for us to obtain the prior-year return, schedules, losses and workpapers from your previous Sydney agent.

Preparation & review

The return is prepared in-house, reconciled against ATO prefill and your records, with deductions mapped to substantiation rules and any offsets calculated. You see a draft before anything is lodged.

Lodgement & aftercare

Once you approve, the return is lodged through Online Services for Agents. We hold the file for later ATO correspondence and flag what to keep an eye on for next year.

Frequently asked questions

Choosing a Sydney tax accountant — common questions.

Common questions

You are based in Cherrybrook — can you act as my Sydney tax accountant?

Yes. The office is in Cherrybrook in Sydney's north-west, but returns are prepared, reviewed and lodged digitally, so the work reaches clients right across greater Sydney — the inner west, the east, the north shore, the south and the western suburbs. Appointments can be in person at the Cherrybrook office, by phone or by video. As a registered Tax Agent (TPB 25523469) lodging through Online Services for Agents, your physical postcode does not change what we can do — it only changes where we meet if you prefer to meet face to face.

How is this different from your Cherrybrook and Hills District pages?

Same Chartered Accountant, different framing. The Cherrybrook and Hills District pages are for people searching for a tax accountant in their own suburb who want a local, in-person relationship close to home. This Sydney page is for the broader audience — someone anywhere in greater Sydney choosing a CA-led practice and happy to work mostly remotely. If you are specifically Hills-local and want the suburb detail, the Hills District page is the better read; the difference is reach, not service.

What types of return do you handle for Sydney clients?

Individual returns including rental schedules, share and managed-fund income, foreign income and capital gains events; company returns with financial statements, franking and base-rate-entity treatment; discretionary and unit trust returns with the distribution paperwork; partnership returns; and SMSF annual returns. Business activity statements and instalment activity statements sit alongside the income-tax work for business clients. The work is prepared in-house under registered Tax Agent obligations rather than passed to an unrelated processing pool.

I am self-employed in Sydney and also looking at a home loan. Can you help with both?

The accounting and the lending are kept as separate engagements, but having one practice see both sides is useful. Your tax position — how income is declared, what is added back, how a structure is treated — is the same information a lender assesses for serviceability. We can prepare your returns with that in mind, and where a finance decision is in play, point you to our broking side. Any loan approval depends on the lender’s assessment, their lending criteria and your circumstances; nothing here is a credit offer.

How are fees worked out, and what do they start at?

Indicative starting points: individual returns from $550 incl. GST; company or trust returns from $2,200 incl. GST; SMSF compliance from $3,300 incl. GST. These are floors, not the final number. Every engagement is quoted in writing after a short scoping call, because a single PAYG return and a trust with multiple beneficiaries and a CGT event are very different jobs. The fees page sets out how scope is built so you are not surprised at invoice time.

How long does a return take once I have sent everything?

Standard individual returns are typically lodged within 5 to 10 business days of receiving complete information. Company, trust and SMSF returns usually take two to four weeks, depending on complexity and whether financial statements are needed first. Turnaround and a milestone checkpoint are both set at engagement, so you always know where your return sits. ATO prefill is reconciled against your own records before anything is lodged, because prefill is routinely incomplete in June and July.

I want to switch from my current Sydney accountant. Is it difficult?

It is light work for you. You sign an engagement letter and an authority for us to contact your previous agent; we request the prior-year return, depreciation schedules, carried-forward losses, the franking account balance and the relevant workpapers; and we connect you in the ATO portal as your tax agent. You do not need to close anything out first. We reconcile what we receive before relying on it, so nothing carried over is taken on trust.

Is the advice on this page specific to my situation?

No — everything here is general information only, not personal tax advice. The right treatment of income, deductions, a structure or a capital gain depends on your circumstances and current law, which changes. Rohan Manokaran scopes each engagement individually before any position is taken. Use this page to understand how the practice works, then book a scoping call so the advice you act on is built around your actual facts rather than a general guide.
