Tax Accountant Cherrybrook for Individuals, Families & Business Owners
A Chartered Accountant and registered Tax Agent (TPB 25523469) preparing individual, company, trust and SMSF returns, BAS and tax planning for clients in Cherrybrook and the Hills District. This page is about the work itself — the engagement, the deliverables and what changes when you move to a principal-led CA.
Eternity Group Accountants is a registered tax agent (TPB 25523469). Information on this page is general in nature and does not constitute personal tax advice. Before acting, consider whether the information is appropriate to your circumstances and seek advice from a qualified tax professional.
What this page is for
The service, not the office tour.
There are two Cherrybrook pages, and they answer different questions. This is the one that explains the work.
If you are deciding where to meet — the address, parking, how close the office is to Cherrybrook Metro — the location page is the better read, and it is linked below. This page is for the other question: what do I actually get when I move my tax to a local Chartered Accountant? It walks through how an engagement is scoped, what a registered Tax Agent is obliged to do, what lands on your desk at the end, and what is different about a principal-led practice versus the firm you may be leaving.
The honest summary: the deliverable — a correctly prepared, lodged return — is the same words on every accountant’s website. The difference is in who does it, how cleanly it is scoped, and whether the person who quoted the job is the person who signs it. For a single-office CA practice the answer to that last one is always the same person, and that is the point of this page.
The CA difference
What a Chartered Accountant and Tax Agent is actually for.
Registered, accountable preparation
Returns are prepared under registered Tax Agent obligations (TPB 25523469) and the CA ANZ professional standard. That is not decoration — it sets the duty of care, the substantiation discipline and the recourse you have if a position is wrong.
One name on the file
The Chartered Accountant who scopes your engagement is the same person who prepares the return and signs the lodgement. No hand-offs to a returns-prep pool, no re-explaining your situation to a new junior each year.
Positions, not just data entry
A CA engagement is about the judgement calls — repair versus improvement, what is genuinely deductible, how to treat a CGT event, whether a structure still suits you — not just typing numbers into the right ATO labels.
In practice
- Prefill reconciled, not trustedATO prefill is a starting point, not the truth. We reconcile income statements, dividends, interest and managed-fund data against your own records before anything is lodged, because prefill is routinely incomplete in June and July.
- The portal handled for youAs your registered agent we lodge through Online Services for Agents, see your ATO account, and field data-matching letters and review queries on your behalf — under the agent lodgement program, which generally gives you later due dates than self-lodging.
- Continuity year on yearCarried-forward losses, depreciation schedules, franking balances and prior decisions live with the same preparer. Nothing has to be rediscovered each July, which is where a lot of errors and missed deductions creep in.
How an engagement runs
From first call to lodged return.
Scoping call
A short conversation to map the shape of your tax — PAYG, ABN, rental, investments, entities — so the engagement and the fee are built around your actual position, not a sticker price.
Engagement & handover
You sign a written engagement and, if you are switching, an authority for us to obtain the prior-year return, schedules, losses and workpapers from your previous agent.
Preparation & review
The return is prepared in-house, reconciled against ATO prefill and your records, with deductions mapped to substantiation rules and any offsets calculated. You see a draft before anything is lodged.
Lodgement & aftercare
Once you approve, the return is lodged through Online Services for Agents. We hold the file for any later ATO correspondence and flag what to keep an eye on for next year.

Deliverables
What actually lands on your desk.
The lodged return
Prepared, reviewed, signed
The relevant return type — individual, company, trust, partnership or SMSF — prepared in-house and lodged through Online Services for Agents under registered Tax Agent obligations.
Supporting schedules
Rental, depreciation, CGT, distributions
Any schedules your situation needs sit inside the engagement — they are not unbundled or quoted separately as a surprise. A quantity surveyor’s depreciation schedule is honoured where you hold one.
A plain-English position
What was claimed and why
You get a clear read on the result, the key judgement calls made, and where a number could move next year — not just a PDF and an estimate of your refund.
A point of contact
Direct access to the Chartered Accountant on your file for the year — for ATO letters, mid-year questions and the next return. Email: rohan@egaamb.com.au.
Who this suits
The Cherrybrook clients who switch to us.
Families outgrowing a DIY return
Two PAYG incomes plus an investment property or share portfolio — the point where the free online tool stops being safe and a rental schedule, dividend reconciliation and CGT positioning start to matter.
Individual returnsSmall business owners wanting one CA
A Pty Ltd owner who wants the financial statements, the company return, director-pay structuring and the franking treatment handled by one accountant who understands the whole picture.
Company returnsFamilies running a trust
Discretionary trusts used for asset protection and income streaming, where the resolutions, beneficiary statements and distribution paperwork need to be right and on time each year.
Trust returnsInvestors thinking past 30 June
Property and share investors who want a year-end planning conversation in April–June about prepayments, contributions and timing — before decisions get locked in, not after.
Tax planningAlso common
People mid-CGT event
A pending sale of property, shares or a business, where the cost-base and discount treatment under current law needs to be worked through so there are no 30 June surprises.
Anyone who wants their agent back
Clients leaving a larger firm where the file kept moving between juniors, who simply want the same Chartered Accountant on their return two years running.

Switching to a Cherrybrook CA — common questions.
Common questions
What does "registered Tax Agent" actually mean for me?
It means the person signing your lodgement is bound by the Tax Practitioners Board's Code of Professional Conduct. Rohan Manokaran is a Chartered Accountant (Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) 266544) and a registered Tax Agent (TPB 25523469). In practice that gives you three things a non-agent cannot: lawful access to lodge through Online Services for Agents, the agent lodgement program (later due dates than self-lodgers), and a professional standard you can hold the preparer to if something is wrong.
I already have an accountant. What is involved in switching to you?
Switching is light work for you. You sign an engagement letter and an authority for us to contact your previous agent; we request the prior-year return, the depreciation schedules, any carried-forward losses, the franking account balance and the relevant workpapers; and we connect you in the ATO portal as your tax agent. You do not need to "close out" anything first. We reconcile what we receive against ATO prefill before we start so nothing carried over is taken on trust.
How is your practice different from a larger firm?
It is principal-led and single-office. The person who scopes your engagement, prepares the return and signs the lodgement is Rohan Manokaran — not a rotating returns-prep team. That is a deliberate trade-off: a larger firm has more hands and longer opening hours, but you get continuity, one point of accountability, and direct access to the Chartered Accountant who knows your file. For most Cherrybrook individuals, families and small businesses that continuity is the thing that was missing.
What does it cost, and how is a fee quoted?
Indicative fees: individual returns from $550 incl. GST; company or trust returns from $2,200 incl. GST; SMSF compliance from $3,300 incl. GST. These are starting points, not the final number. Every engagement is quoted in writing after a short scoping call so the price reflects your actual complexity — a single PAYG return and a trust with three beneficiaries and a CGT event are not the same job. See the fees page for how scope is built.
Which return types do you prepare in-house?
Individual returns (including rental schedules, share and managed-fund income, and CGT events), company returns with financial statements, discretionary and unit trust returns with distribution paperwork, partnership returns, and SMSF annual returns. BAS and IAS for business clients sit alongside the income-tax work. All of it is prepared in the Cherrybrook office rather than outsourced.
How long does a return take once I send everything?
Standard individual returns are typically lodged within 5–10 business days of receiving complete information. Company, trust and SMSF returns take 2–4 weeks depending on complexity and whether financial statements are needed first. Turnaround and a milestone checkpoint are both set at engagement, so you are never left guessing where your return sits.
Do you only work with clients who live in Cherrybrook?
No. The office is in Cherrybrook and many clients are local, but returns are prepared and lodged digitally, so distance is not a constraint. The appointment can be in person at the Cherrybrook office or by phone or video. The location page covers the office, parking and getting there in detail.
